How would you live if you had one more season of love?
I am writing this blog as a tribute to those volunteers that have gone before us. And those that sadly, are no longer with us, having given their lives...heart and soul...to a better cause.
Since I have been here, volunteering and working in Costa Rica, I have experienced two of my good friends lose their beloved sisters to unforeseen tragedies. The most recent, my dear friend Jordan Hightower, losing her sister, Molly Hightower, in the January 12th earthquake in Haiti.
Molly was 22 years old, had just graduated from college with a degree in Sociology, and was hoping to pursue a Masters degree in Education or Counseling. She was in the process of dedicating the next year of her life...the next 525,600 minutes...to helping the orphaned children in Haiti, through an organization called, ¨Friends of the Orphans.¨
Molly
As I read her blog, her accounts of interacting with abandoned children, staying up late to talk with them, comforting them, and giving them a hand to hold...a shoulder to lean on...and someone to depend on...I am left feeling humbled and inspired.
At 22 years old, this brave and hopeful young woman had enough love in her heart to share with those who had less. And her legacy will live on, not only in the hearts of her family and friends, but in many others as well. Her legacy will live on in each one of those childrens´hearts she dedicated countless minutes to, in the hearts´of her colleagues, her dedicated readers, and in all the volunteers current and future that are working hard to continue her dream...
She was strong, and actively shared in the dream that many of us have...for a world full of peace, love, and equality. Her actions remain as a light of hope in a darkened room...that one day this world will be a better place for our children to grow up and live.
Molly is no longer able to add to her blog, as her body was recovered from the wreckage of the Fr. Wasson Center in Petion'Ville, Haiti following the January 12th earthquake.
Today, instead of writing about my work in Costa Rica, I am dedicating this blog to Molly, and ask that you take the time to read her blog...her story...her passion, and join her family and friends in celebrating her last season of love.
From other volunteers across the world, current and future...From your readers, admirers, and followers of your story,
Thank you Molly. You are an inspiration. Your legacy will live on.
