From May the 15th to July the 31st (2 months and a half) you will have the opportunity to work with the sea turtles that come to nest in the precious Caribbean coast at “Estación Las Tortugas”. What is “Estación Las Tortugas”? Estación Las Tortugas is a rescue center for sea turtles that needs the help of people who care for conservation in order to help these animals which come to nest by the seashore all years from March the 1st till July the 30th. They are ranked as the 4th place in turtle nesting around the world. |

What to do? During the whole time you will be collaborating with the rescue project at the “Estación Las Tortugas” you will be able to help in different tasks such as preparation and care of the nursery for turtles, controlling nests sites, counting eggs as well as coordinating these activities with the volunteers coming to the station through Proyecto Asís. Requirements Age 25 or above, traveler´s insurance, recommendation letter from the university referring previous volunteer activities, proactive, high Spanish speaking level, leadership, able to manage groups of volunteers, willing to help in all the tasks possible when required by the director of the Station. Station conditions and facilities - While staying at the station the internship person in charge will have to give support in different daily tasks related to the Station like environmental education and conservation of sea turtles even though there are no Proyecto Asís volunteers, however not dangerous jobs will be done. - The conditions of the station are very basic as it is an isolated area, for example, the electricity is provided by solar panels (12 v.) that means that you won´t find plugs inside the rooms so Ipods, video/photo cameras, laptops, etc. won´t be able to be charged, water is supplied from tanks that are filled every 24 hours from wells so it important to use exactly what you need. - Due to most of the activities take place during the night, it is required silence as much as possible in the Station rooms so the internship person must supervise our volunteers in this matter as well as in other regulations and rules of the Station. - In case the internship person wants to do extra activities on weekends, these expenses as well as transportation out and in of the Station go on his/her own. - This is a very hot area and there are many mosquitoes so bring along enough bug repellent. Total Cost: $800 for 78 days. Includes transportation in from San Jose International Airport on May the 15th to the Station, 3 meals a day, room with shared bathroom.
