Red-lored Parrot Amazona autumnalis

This is a species of Amazon parrot, native to tropical regions of the Americas, from eastern Mexico south to Ecuador.
It is 32–35 cm (13 in) long, with a weight of 310–480 g. The plumage is primarily green, with a red forehead and in some subspecies yellow cheeks (sometimes with red spots). Their name comes from the red spot they have on their heads.
The crown is blue. Adult males and females do not differ in plumage. Juveniles have less yellow on cheeks, less red on forehead, and dark irises.
They eat fruits, nuts and seeds; apparently, avocado, eggplant and grapes are poisonous for them (as well as for other animals).

Parrots and Parakeets at Proyecto Asis

Parrots and parakeets are the animals that we release most frequently back into the wild.
They can be very sociable with people, but they live in groups in the wild, having just one partner for life.
Some people do not understand the weight of their actions by keeping these beautiful birds in cages either to own as pets, or sell to other people. As part of the culture, some people cut their wings and feed them rice and beans instead of seeds and fruits.
We change their diet for the best: Seeds and fruits. We built a big cage for them to fly around and interact with other parrots or parakeets. We have also changed their diets back to natural seeds and fruits.
